“A wedding is one of life’s great moments, a time of solemn commitment as well as good wishes, feasting and joy. St John tells us how Jesus shared in such an occasion at Cana, and gave there a sign of new beginnings as he turned water into wine. Marriage is intended by God to be a creative relationship, as his blessing enables husband and wife to love and support each other in good times and in bad, and to share in the care and upbringing of children. For Christians, marriage is also an invitation to share life together in the spirit of Jesus Christ. It is based upon a solemn, public and life-long covenant between a man and a woman, declared and celebrated in the presence of God and before witnesses. On their wedding day the bride and bridegroom face each other, make their promises and receive God’s blessing.” © Common Worship: Pastoral Services. Archbishops’ Council 2000
The Tenbury Team is blessed with many beautiful buildings that would make any wedding special. If you thinking about getting married please do contact one of the clergy who would be happy to help you with your enquiry.
Who Can Get Married? For many years you had to live in the parish where you wanted to be married or be on the electoral roll of that church. In 2008 the Marriage Measure, which is the law governing marriages in this country, was revised in such a way as to open up the possibility of a church wedding in a certain parish to more people. If you have what is called a ‘qualifying connection’ with a parish you can married in that parish. You need to have one qualifying connection and they are as follows:
You were baptized in the parish by a Church of England form of baptism
You were confirmed by a Church of England Bishop and your confirmation is entered in a register belonging to a church in the parish
Your parents or grandparents were married in the parish by a Church of England service
Your usual place of residence has been in the parish for a least 6 months
Your parents had their usual place of residence in for at least 6 months during your lifetime
You have habitually attended worship at Church of England service in the parish for at least 6 months
Your parents have habitually attended worship at Church of England services in the parish for at least 6 months during your lifetime
The clergy are more than happy to consider taking a marriage service for people who have been married before and whose former spouse is still alive.
